The route from Chicago to
Grand River consisted of many industrial and commercial areas. There
were very few recreational boats, although we did see many fisherman on
small bass boats. |
Upon exiting the Barkley
Lock & Dam, we literally entered another dimension! It is
reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz. At the beginning the movie is in
black and white. When Dorothy landed in Munchkin Land, it suddenly
turned into Technicolor. While we did enjoy the natural scenery from
Chicago to the Tennessee River, there was a 90% shift from industrial to
recreational. There were dozens of pleasure craft of all
sizes. People were water skiing, sailing and general boating.
It was like I was back in Geneva or Fort Lauderdale. |
